To the shock of many both inside and outside the Welsh political bubble, former Plaid Cymru AM for Mid & West Wales, Simon Thomas, resigned his seat and left the party on July 25th after being arrested and charged with possessing indecent images.
He was originally released on bail for 28 days and re-bailed on August 21st for a further 28 days as investigations continue.
Helen Mary Jones, who has previously served as AM for Llanelli on two separate occasions, was returned as AM for Mid & West Wales on August 2nd.
Upon taking office she said, “I feel a profound sense of regret at the difficult circumstances in which I will be returning to the Senedd.
“Despite this, I know that there is a job of work to do in representing the people of Mid and West Wales and in giving them and their communities the strongest voice possible in our national parliament.
“I look forward to giving of my best for the region and for Wales.”
