The Finance Secretary confirmed that the National Procurement Service – which enables public bodies to bulk-buy items and services – will be wound down to a smaller operation.
An Environment & Rural Affairs Committee report from June 2018 criticised some aspects of how the body worked in food procurement, while the Wales Audit Office concluded in 2017 that the service was performing way below expectations.
The Finance Secretary said, “A smaller operation will be set up to manage a reduced portfolio of national contracts, where such agreements can demonstrate delivery of value across a significant majority of Welsh public sector organisations.”
