Following reports towards the end of 2018 that Japanese company Hitachi were considering pullout out of the Wylfa Newydd nuclear power station development on Anglesey, it’s been reported in the Japanese media that a decision will be made this week to halt construction.

The Welsh Government described the reports as “worrying” adding that “We will continue to monitor the situation very carefully and press the UK Government to do everything it can to help bring this project to Anglesey.”

Nuclear energy is non-devolved.

Rhun ap Iorwerth AM (Plaid, Ynys Môn) said “the signs aren’t looking good”, while former First Minister, Carwyn Jones AM (Lab, Bridgend), accused the UK Government of being too focused on Brexit.
