Just weeks after announcing the closure of the Bridgend engine plant in September 2020, Ford has announced that 12,000 jobs will be lost and six factories were to close (including Bridgend) across Europe.
Ford’s operations outside North America lost £631million in 2018. The factories (other than Bridgend) set to close include Bordeaux, three plants in Russia and the sale of a Slovakian plant to Canadian automotive supplier, Magna. Shifts were also set to be reduced in Germany and Spain.
The company said it wished to focus on commercial vehicles and imports, while its future was “rooted in electrification”.
