The EU and UK Government agreed to extend the Article 50 period until January 31st 2020 after MPs voted by 438-20 to hold an extraordinary UK General Election which, subject to approval from the House of Lords, is set to take place on 12th December 2019.

The vote was triggered after MPs rejected the Prime Minister’s proposed three-day timetable to pass the Withdrawal Agreement Bill – which would enshrine the recently renegotiated Brexit deal in UK law.

The Article 50 period could be shortened if a deal is approved before January 31st.
