Plaid Cymru “could scrap council tax, business rates and cut income tax”

Plaid Cymru leader, Adam Price AM (Plaid, Carms. E. & Dinefwr), said his party would actively consider replacing council tax and business rates with a property tax, as well as cutting the base rate of income tax by 3p if they form the next Welsh Government.

Council tax and business rates raise around £2.5billion in Wales annually and Adam Price says the radical shift in policy would fund an income tax cut and raise an additional £300million which would be invested in education.

The idea was raised before a lecture in Llanelli and is not official party policy.
