The grounds of Grade I Listed Gwydir Castle in Conwy county and the historic Ty’n yr Cornel Hotel in Gwynedd were hit by flooding during an unseasonable spell of heavy rain, which resulted in several flood warnings across northern counties.

BBC Wales reports that the grounds of Gwydir Castle have been hit by flooding almost annually and this is the second time it’s flooding in 2020.

The co-owner of Gwydir Castle questioned the water management policy of Natural Resources Wales, saying “Water is drained from further up the catchment area and we on the valley floor are paying for it.”

The town of Llanrwst in the Conwy valley was hit by flooding again, having been badly affected earlier in the year.

Natural Resources Wales said, “Flooding can happen any time of year which is why our flood forecasting and warning systems are in place at all times.”
