The Welsh Government has announced a £20million programme to prevent homeless people from returning to rough sleeping once pandemic restrictions have been eased.

So far, £10million has been spent on emergency accommodation for 800 homeless people, including rough sleepers, to allow them to self-isolate.

The funding will be used to support local authorities to provide longer-term accommodation and/or permanent housing for the homeless.

Local Government & Housing Minister, Julie James (Lab, Swansea West) said: “This crisis has provided us with a unique opportunity to change the services and change lives for the better and I am truly excited about this. This funding, together with the collaborative approach we have taken so far, gives me confidence that we can now make a significant step towards achieving our goal of ending homelessness in Wales.”
