After 10 years of gradual introduction by the Welsh Government, the final two hospitals which charged drivers to park on their grounds – Carmarthenshire’s Glangwili and Prince Philip hospitals – abolished parking charges on 1st September 2018 when a parking enforcement contract ended.

Following their abolition, the Welsh Government said, “We are pleased to see free parking is now in place at all hospitals in Wales. Car parking charges are often an unfair expense on people frequently attending NHS hospitals, whether they are patients, staff or visitors. Free parking provides a fairer and more consistent approach to parking policy.”
