Following a BBC Wales freedom of information request from their business correspondent, Brian Meechan, the Welsh Government revealed Aston Martin received £18.8million in grants – £13million more than had previously been revealed.
The additional funding was said to be related to skills and research & development, though it’s not thought to be linked to an announcement that the company’s St Athan plant will produce electric luxury vehicles.
The funding, reportedly drawn down over three years, is also conditional on the company reaching certain targets.
Aston Martin recently floated on the London Stock Exchange valued at £4.3billion and there was criticism from Welsh political and business commentators on social media that the Welsh Government had given the company funding in this backdrop.
In the Senedd chamber, Adam Price AM (Plaid, Carms. E & Dinefwr) called the deal “Circuit of Wales-like”.
