On Saturday 11th May, thousands of people took to the streets of Cardiff in what was described as the first march in support of independence. The march was primarily organised by All Under One Banner (AUOB) – a Welsh spin-off of an identical organisation from Scotland, whose most recent march attracted 100,000 people in Glasgow.
Unofficial estimates put the crowd in Cardiff at up to 3,000 (from what I saw that’s about right).
In a speech following the march, Plaid Cymru leader, Adam Price AM (Plaid, Carms. E. & Dinefwr) said: “Decades of Westminster neglect have resulted in poverty and under-investment. A third of our children are living in relative poverty and you only have to look at the Brexit chaos to see that Westminster is not fit to govern or represent Wales.
“People are waking up to the idea that independence is normal and that the solution to our problems in Wales is to take our future into our own hands.”
