Imam Sis from Newport ended his 161 day hunger strike – one of, if not the longest in UK history – on May 26th after imprisoned leader of the Kurdish PKK party, Abdullah Ocalan, received a visit from legal counsel, reportedly the first for eight years.
In March, the Senedd became the first legislature in the world to demand that Ocalan’s conditions be reviewed by international observers. Following the visit, Ocalan requested that hunger strikers stand down.
