A group of more than 30 Welsh celebrities and sporting figures signed a letter calling for the National Assembly of Wales to be given a monolingual Welsh name “Senedd” as AMs prepare to debate Stage 3 of the Senedd & Elections Bill on Wednesday (13th November) – the last opportunity to table amendments.
A rally by Welsh language campaigners was held outside the Senedd on November 9th.
The letter said: “The naming of our national legislature as ‘Senedd’ is….a statement of the Wales we want to see for generations to come. Giving this most important of national institutions a Welsh-only name sends an important message about the central and special status we wish to see for the language in the public life of the country. This is a chance to show that Welsh really does, as is so often said, belong to and include everyone, whatever their background.”
