The Local Government & Housing Minister, Julie James (Lab, Swansea West), will ban the use of combustible cladding on buildings in Wales early in 2020 according to a report from BBC Wales.

The Minister told the Senedd’s Communities Committee she hoped to table regulations outlawing the use of the cladding – a key cause of the 2017 Grenfell Tower Disaster – before the three-week Christmas recess, which starts this week.

The Minister will also place a requirement on developers and alike to consult with the fire service during pre-planning stages for new high-rise buildings and will further explore a loan scheme to retrofit high-rise buildings with sprinkler systems.
