A proposed rise in free bus pass age scrapped

The Welsh Government has performed a U-turn by cancelling a proposed increase in the age of eligibility for free bus passes from 60 to the state pension age from 2022.

The proposal was included in a white paper ahead of the introduction of a new public transport law and would have resulted in the free bus pass age increasing to 67 by 2028.

However, following a meeting before the publication of the draft Welsh Budget for 2020-21, the Welsh Government confirmed the proposed age increase will be scrapped, meaning the age of eligibility will remain at 60 for the foreseeable future.
