Nick Ramsay AM (Ind–Con, Monmouth) – who was suspended by the Conservative Senedd group following his arrest and release without charge on New Year’s Day following an undisclosed incident at his home – has issued a statement defending his absence from the Senedd.
As the current Chair of the Senedd’s Public Accounts Committee, he hasn’t attended any meetings or plenary sessions since the Senedd returned from Christmas recess despite being entitled to do so as an Independent.
There have been claims and counterclaims that his behaviour after drinking has caused concern and also that there’s an organised campaign within the Conservative Party against him.
A statement drafted by legal representatives said: “Mr Ramsay is in limbo but that is not his fault. The quicker the Conservative Party do something and deal with this properly the quicker this will be resolved. At the moment they seem to be relying on unsupported conjecture which is wholly unsatisfactory.”
