The First Minister has said that all care home residents and staff will be tested for coronavirus, days after he was forced to defend a decision to only test those who have shown symptoms.
The First Minister and Health Minister both told MS taking part in a virtual Senedd plenary session last week that there was “little value” in testing people in care homes as they may show symptoms within a day of providing a negative result.
The new policy still has some restrictions. Testing will only take place when a resident or staff member has tested positive for the virus.
The Conservatives welcomed their “u-turn”, while Plaid Cymru called for the Welsh Government’s medical evidence to be published to determine how the new policy differs from standard international practice.
