During BBC Wales’ Politics Wales, the First Minister said that Public Health Wales’ denials of any knowledge or recognition of the Welsh Government’s virus testing targets – which were scrapped last month – was “puzzling”.
Dr Tracey Cooper, the Chief Executive of Public Health Wales, told the Senedd’s Health Committee last week that the organisation was “not aware” of the Welsh Government’s announced target of 9,000-test-a-day by mid-April 2020.
The First Minister added that he had confidence in Public Health Wales’ ability to do its job, but added: “I talked last night at length with the chair of Public Health Wales, about the need for the board of Public Health Wales to be able to give us confidence that the advice we are getting is reliable.”
