The Welsh Government launched a public consultation on plans to ban the most commonly-used single-use plastics.
The items that could be included in a future ban include plastic-stemmed cotton buds, plastic cutlery, drinks stirrers, straws, single-use polystyrene cups and containers, balloon sticks and plastics which degrade into micro-particles.
According to the consultation document (pdf), the Welsh Government seeks to introduce a ban by autumn 2021.
Deputy Minister for Local Government & Housing, Hannah Blythyn (Lab, Delyn) said: “Plastic pollution and the impact it has on our environment is regularly highlighted in the media, online and in conversations I have every day with people across Wales. It blights our communities and has a devastating impact on our wildlife.”
The consultation – details here – is open until October 22nd 2020.
