At Plaid Cymru’s virtual autumn conference, the party put forward what’s described as a radical programme should they form the next Welsh Government.
Party conference season has been dominated by the second wave of Covid-19.
In his keynote speech, party leader, Adam Price MS (Plaid, Carms. E. & Dinefwr), noted that while he appreciated the scale of the challenge the Welsh Government has faced during the pandemic – praising the First Minister’s serious manner in approaching it – the Welsh Government followed UK policy too closely on lockdown timing, PPE and track and trace.
He said: “If we’ve learnt one thing during the pandemic, it is that an overreliance on Westminster leads to worse results and that better outcomes can be secured by following the Welsh way.”
In terms of policies, Plaid Cymru proposes to build 50,000 homes over five years, scrap GCSEs as they currently are (and place greater emphasis on teacher assessments), set a £10-per-hour minimum wage for care workers and introduce universal childcare from the age of 1.
