The Welsh Government has announced a £30million strategy to increase the supply of electric vehicle infrastructure by 2025, ahead of a proposed phasing-out of new diesel and petrol vehicle sales by 2030 across the UK.
Improving electric vehicle infrastructure is a key part of the recently-published national transport strategy.
Some of the issues the programme intends to address include contactless payment for charging facilities, 24/7 customer care, improved lighting and security at charging points and a general increase in the availability of charging points.
The Welsh Government has estimated that Wales needs to install up to 50,000 rapid and 3,000 ultra-rapid public chargers by 2030.
Economy & Transport Minister, Ken Skates (Lab, Clwyd South) said: “Electric vehicles are an emerging market but one that that will be integral to how we travel in the coming years. Improvements cannot be driven by government alone, and this strategy will support the public, private and third sector to work together in giving people confidence in using electric vehicles.”
